Since I can't recall mentioning this before, I thought I should perhaps mention one thing I find useful for the final stages of writing. After you've worked on a writing a text for a while it gets difficult to read it without skimming/mentally filling in stuff, and hence catch grammar errors or poor wordings. One thing I find useful is to copy the displayed web page (ie, with minimal markup visible) and send it through a speech synthesis program and listen with a notepad. At that point it's much easier for me to catch lack of agreements in tense or number, missing words, sentences that should be reordered, etc, in the listening process.
(If you're on linux you can almost certainly find a package for espeak that you can use to do this. Not sure about windows or mac.)
