# Is the solar system weird? BBC news

edited May 2015

I thought this was interesting. There may be a bit of a pitfall in thinking that our region is special in someway, but food for thought:

http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20150515-how-weird-is-our-solar-system

One item they highlight: "The other oddity about the solar system is Jupiter itself. Big planets aren't that common, and most of them are on orbits similar to Earth's or Venus's. Only about a couple percent of stars have a Jupiter-sized planet at a distance comparable to Jupiter's orbit."

This is a pretty nice article by an astronomer on how unusual the Solar System is, and why it got that way:

Joe: you posted your article under the category "Azimuth Forum", but it's not about the Azimuth Forum. I'll move it to "News and Information", which is the right category for this sort of thing.
