I've seen 'anomaly' used for the mean temperature during a given year (or some such period) minus the mean temperature over a longer historical period.

The 'adjustment' we're talking about here is the mean temperature during a given day minus the mean of temperatures _on the same day of the year_ over a longer historical period.

Maybe this is called an anomaly too - I don't know.
