Wasn't sure where to ask this but I had a question about joins and meets with empty sets.

For example:

Let's say we have a poset \$$\{A, \leq \}\$$, and \$$a \in A\$$. What is the \$$a \vee \varnothing\$$? Do you approach it like the or operator, ie 0 or 1 = 1? I assume it would be the opposite for \$$a \cap \varnothing\$$?
