Wasn't sure where to ask this but I had a question about joins and meets with empty sets.

For example:

Let's say we have a poset \\( \{A, \leq \}\\), and \\(a \in A\\). What is the \\(a \vee \varnothing\\)? Do you approach it like the or operator, ie 0 or 1 = 1? I assume it would be the opposite for \\(a \cap \varnothing\\)?
