The intuition behind understanding this chart is that when the exponential rate of increase is strongest, the incremental increase (i.e. the daily to weekly count) may be of similar scale to the cumulative up to that point. That's why the curve linearizes in the chart, at least until the logistic inflection point is reached, as indicated by the divergence of China and South Korea.

In contrast to this projection, the Hubbert Linearization accounts for the logistic divergence and generates a linear fit over the entire range.
